I saw several pictures online where people had taken 3 minute exposures with an xti, or added several 3 minute exposures together. This was interesting since the camera is hard coded to only allow 30 seconds max. How did they do that? I couldn't find anything on it.

Set it to "bulb" mode (the setting just past "30 seconds'), use the cable release made for the XTi with locking button, and time it.

I reject your solution as too uncomplicated. I want some elaborate firmware hack or mod chip.
Besides, I only have the IR remote and I don't know if that cab do bulb... I'll go home and check.
Thanks!

Another option is to remote control the camera using a laptop. If you need the laptop for something else (controlling a telescop/guidescope) this is a neat solution and there exists lots of software solutions to achive this. I'm planing to try this later this year when my guidescope is finished (right now I'm using the bulb method for longer exposures).

I heard about that, but I thought that option was for cameras that came out after the xti, or at least my xti... I'll go research that.
And of course I got the IR remote so I wouldn't have to worry about any vibration from the cable remote. :wall:
