Which ones? Vixen makes a wide range of scopes. Some, almost anybody can afford. Some might make Bill Gates flinch!

I'd never heard of them, but I don't shop telescopes.

Just snooping, I did run into a really weird semi-anime logo or mascot, though, on the page that says Vixen has moved (http://www.vixen-global.com/).

It's like a reindeer -- I suppose it's the one named Vixen. But, this Vixen has a big red nose, like that late-joiner Rudolph. This is disturbing.

Oh, yeah, at the moved Vixen :: About Vixen (http://www.vixen.co.jp/English/co-info_e.html), they explain the Santa Claus connection. "The company, Vixen Co., Ltd., is named after the reindeer, the messenger of happiness."

I would have named the company after a female fox. Or a tempermental woman. Or a Russ Meyer film. No, cancel that last one.

So what's she doing with Rudolph's nose? Nah, I don't really want to know.

Back to telescopes. Yes, that is quite a large line. Something for everybody. What's your target, siteings?

While well made, Vixen telescopes are rather finicky and sometimes prone to having disappointing optics at times. The real trouble starts when you try to attach a camera or another part and it turns into a five-attachments-on-my-refractor nightmare.

For a while, Orion was the exclusive seller of Vixens. People moaned about it being a monopoly and when Orion gave up the franchise the prices stayed exactly the same. There really were not many sales in such high-end refractors.

Once China started producing lower-cost Apos, Vixen's lost a lot of their scope cred.
