I'm looking for a 3-hour battery for my new Makita drill set. Makita sells two models in this range; the Makita BL1830 and the Makita 194205-3.

As seen here (link) (http://www.dealtime.com/xPO-Makita-Makita-194205-3-Lxt-18-Volt-3-0-Ah-Lithium-Ion-Battery) there is a $30.00 price difference between the two.

What gives? (i.e. what am I missing?)

Thanks!

the only difference I see is one is sold by Amazon.com (I'd buy it directly from there) and the other by Tyler Tool.

If you notice, the BL1830 has 194205-3 in parenthesis.

It's different markup by different sellers.

Okay, but here on Makita's site (http://www.makita.com/en-us/Modules/Accessories/AccessoryDetails.aspx?ID=34104) they show them as different part numbers (but are woefully short on details).

I saw that the BL1830 has 194205-3 in parenthesis (and vice-versa - which is why I chose that site) - but cannot figure out why in the world there would be the price difference... esp. since I first saw the different part numbers on the Makita site.

I think (but I'm not sure) the difference is the 194205-3 comes with a 3 pak of batteries. Here's the site that led me to that conclusion:

http://www.amazon.com/Makita-194205-3-Lithium-Ion-Battery-BL1830/product-reviews/B000EDVTQM/ref=pd_cp_hi_0_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

But as you say they don't give much info.

I think the 194205-3 part number means it's a "one package" part number, meaning the package it comes in contains just one of the items that is code named BL1830.

Go here and click on "DETAILS":
