Hi,

I've got a Meade DS-114EC. It's "like new" but it clearly hasn't been maintained for a few years (sitting in someone's garage, probably) and I'm having a problem with the motors...they are very inconsistent. Somewhat jerky and "unsmooth" - for example, if I press the button to move up, it moves up really slowly for a second or two, then gets up to speed. But when I move down, it gets up to speed relatively instantly. (It's balanced, and the motor/gear boxes are appropriately tightened). Do I need to grease the gears or something like that? Replace the motors?

Also, the mount is very "loose" - if I bump the tripod even a little bit - or even sometimes just pushing the eyepiece with my face - I completely lose any object in the FOV and have to start all over again with the viewfinder. Should/could I replace the tripod and/or mount?

Thanks!
Peter
