Anyone know where I could get a cheap dew Heater controller for my 7-8" Kendrick heater, without making my own. Also do you actually need one or could I not just plug it into my 12v supply.

I made my own so can't help you. But yes you can connect direct to 12 volts but expect that to create heat currents that hurt the image quality. You only want as much heat as you need and no more. Also it would drain a battery rather quickly than necessary. In my case, I have AC power, so scrounged a 12 volt model train transformer rated to 3 amps. The speed control was just a wiper across the secondary picking off various voltages as it wiped across them. Running at 1/3 "throttle" it does a fine job on my 14" down to about 0F. Below that I move to half throttle. Summer a bit under quarter throttle is all I need. My heater strip is just resistive and doesn't care if DC or AC is used. I have no idea what's in a Kendrick strip but doubt AC would not be a problem.

Thanks for that Rick, I think I will nip round to my local Maplins and ask them if they do a controller that might be compatible with the Dew Heater..
