I am posting the below on the behalf of Bloodhound31, who for reasons we're still trying to figure out can't current post here, though he can send PMs:

Hi all,

well, me and old telescopes just keep finding each other. On neither occasion was I looking for one, but there it is...

I was handed this one on Friday, and have since pulled it into a million bits, measured and photo documented the whole thing, done some research online and written a new web page for my site.

Enjoy the read!

Thanks for sorting that out for me mate.

I recieved the tripod this morning, so I will be photographing, measuring, recording, sanding, oiling and re-photographing it all again tonight. I will add them to the page later.

Oh, BTW, if anyone has ANY information on the EXACT date and any other specs of this old telescope or it's maker, please let me know.

Baz.

I got the tripod on Monday morning and have now finished the restoration and put it all together.

Both the telescope and tripod are amazing, especially the condition both are in. Looking at the final photo's I was surprised at the size.

What are you using to clean the brass? I've used cleaners such as Brasso but they leave a slight film on the metal no matter how much buffing you do.

Did you clean the inside of the tubes as well? The inside of the smaller tube looks like it was blackened (to reduce glare?)

rommel. Degreasing of metallic parts before electroplating, or electroless plating....which won't take if it's greasy....is accomplished with plenty of outdoor ventilation, and some trichlor-ethylene. pete
