Photographing the Space Shuttle

Hi,

I asked a similar question over on the Space/Astronomy Q & A forum and it was suggested that I ask it here.

When the space shuttle is in orbit is it possible to take a photo of it from earth (preferably my backyard :D), and if so how would I go about doing it.
