Internet Explorer 8 (IE8) has been out since March 19 (general availability). Has anyone here used it yet? If so, share your good and bad experiences.
I run IE7 (and FireFox) at home. Here at work they have IE6 loaded.
(I did some searching here but couldn't find a dedicated thread . . . .)

I upgraded my wife's computer to IE8 because IE7 is a bad memory leaker and MS will not correct the problem. Unfortunately IE8 seems to have the same issue so I suspect Vista is in our future, like it or not.
I tired to downgrade to IE6 but no joy - MS doesn't like that.

That's the reason I was asking. With IE7 I can watch it throw away memory (using Windows XP Task Manager). My PC starts with about 400M of page file use and I can watch it slowly climb to 2.2G in a matter of 30 mins or so - just using IE7 and doing searches on BAUT (or any other site). When I exit IE7, the page file use drops back down to 400M.

I have problems with IE7 and Firefox at work. IE7 just becomes slow / unresponsive after a while . . . I'd guess it has to do with the memory leakage. Firefox crashes more often, but recovers quicker. I prefer FFox, but many of my company's programs are web based and only work with IE.
At home I use both, but don't have many problems with either. Much more memory on my home machine though.

I wish I could downlevel from IE7 to IE6 on my home PC. IE6 here at work is steady as a rock.

On both my home computers I run IE8 and love it.
At work I am stuck with W2000 and it is limited to IE6. Which is required to access some of the websites required to perform my duties. But more and more sites have orphaned IE6, notably Gmail. To get around that I also use FF to tag Gmail and a few others. It won’t be long before the boss will have to upgrade me to Vista (aaahhh, so smooth).

I found this 24-hr comparison/stress test on the SoftPedia website:
http://news.softpedia.com/news/IE8-Uses-90-Less-Memory-than-IE7-in-24-Hour-Long-Haul-Testing-108569.shtml
IE8 Uses 90% Less Memory than IE7 in 24-Hour Long Haul Testing. And can take stress tests continuously for over 12 hours.

Internet Explorer 8 ... Has anyone here used it yet? ...
Hmmm, for me personally that sounds like "there's a new brand of cyanide on the market, anybody tried it yet?" ;)

IE7 at work, IE8 at home.
Either can freeze once in a while (much less than once per day) but are generally fine.
I do some web development, but it's all Intranet at present, so it's all I.E. (6 - as the users are all Win2k). Works for me/us. (Really can't be bothered making stuff work on Firefox too).
Ranting/rambling:
Did surprise me how fast I.E. 6 became persona-non-grata.
I used to do work for Govt. dept. web sites not so long ago; and they used to make me make websites work on stuff from prehistory due to the one or two citizens still using them.
"Yes, we'd like it to work just like a desktop application, but it must work with J(ava)Script turned off, and in both Navigator 4.7, I.E. 4.2, as well as all the newer versions".

I'm so used to Google Chrome now that I don't think I could use anything else at home.

Hmmm, for me personally, your response does not answer my question. Do you have some experience with IE8 that you would like to relate?

I am using IE8, no problems so far and I have had it up and running for a couple of months now, it seems much better than IE7. No crashes and I have found it a lot quicker. :)

I'm using IE8. My only complaint so far is the usual littany of expletives aimed at software writers who can't leave well enough and working alone from one version to the next...
Not that the new layout isn't bad, its just a very jarring change from 7 to 8.

Just a quibble: it's not the software writers making those decisions.
