Hi jimngu....welcome to BAUT1

Say, you a fine instrument there, hey!

I couldn't explain to you, how you go about collimating your 'scope....
my head's hurting at the mo....but here are a couple of links...might be helpful to you.

http://www.stargazing.org.uk/collimate.html
http://www.galacticfool.com/collimate-newtonian-telescope/

well, hopefully you'll be able to 'fix' it and enjoy exploring your skies.

Let me just add that, other seasoned BAUTzens, here, would explain to you and advice you in the ways of collimation and anything else you might want to ask about. Heed their advice. See you around.

Welcome, you have come to the right place.

Try to find the nearest astronomy club or college or community college or university or even high school where somebody can help you.

I am pretty much a rank beginner too and the most help I have gotten is from a fellow science teacher who knows how to do these things.

Good luck and enjoy your viewing.

Since you haven't given us much information, most answers here are going to be along the lines of "are you focusing it?" or "are you using an eyepiece" or something obvious like that. If there's something seriously wrong with your scope involving collimation it's probably best to find someone who can see it firsthand.

However, we can try to diagnose the problem. How about you draw us a sketch of what the stars look like when you try to observe?

I noticed on my dob, when it is in need of colimation, that it is out of focus in a very specific way. Some more information would be much more helpful for us and you :)

Welcome to the board. Because no one has said it yet, be sure to read the rules in the FAQ on the top left of the screen. Some of them are a little different from the standard forum.

You say the stars are flat and blurry. Not oval or teardrop shaped blurs? Are they round blurs? Is there a black spot in them, and if so where, and is it round?

All of this matters before we can even start to help. Finding a local club with an experienced observer to see it first hand is best, but on here, we can only know what you tell us, so complete and accurate information is needed.

Hi All ! There is one thing I forget to mention is when I use the laser collimater to do the collimation there is the red round like light came out from the tube , let me explain in this way hope you guys know what I mean .
When I do it and after collimate , I turn off my room light and facing it to the whit wall , I saw the light came out from the tube , but its not the red dot is the the round light came out from the tube , the center it the spider and the light is surround it and reflact to the wall , and found that one side of the image red light look more , well tonight I get a picture of the image and post it .
