Here's a brief article (http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/generic/story.jsp?id=news/NANO070109-3.xml&headline=Nano-UAV%20Video&channel=defense) and cool video about AeroEnvironment's work at developing a Nano-UAV modeled after hummingbirds. The video is a little over 2 minutes long and shows the development from controlled descents through hovering and climbing flight. Over the next year, they're required to shrink the UAV while making it fly longer and quieter. Looks like some impressive engineering.

From that video, it looks like they made a lot of progress last year itself. The important, first principles kind of progress. Maybe they've broken the back of it?
