Hi Guy's,
I need some help. I already have a 10" Meade reflector on a dob base. I've just bought a 3" Unitron 1200mm focal length refractor Optical Tube Assembly. Ideal for the upcoming Mars viewing season. In my haste at purchasing it on Ebay, I did not notice that it did not have a tripod nor mount. Stuoid, I know. So I'm in the market for a tripod and mount. I only do visual observing, so I'm considering a AZ-3 mount. My question is, is this a suitible mount ? All the people selling them say it is, or advise a more expensive EQ-3 mount which is more than I need. What do you think ? Regards Rod |

1) You could simply strap it to the side of the Dob, counterweighted as necessary.
2) Before you bought the 3" scope, did you try a 3" eccentric (circular) stop on the Dob? This is a cheap way to obtain a small unobstructed aperature with a larger "cheap" Dob. Make the comparison and let us know what you see. |
