It's a big old mount - easily take a 12" OTA.
The problems are periodic error (you won't be able to take long exposure photos), alignment and portability. The mount is good enough but even at over $1000 you are not getting an observatory quality mount. BTW - ever thought how high a newtonians focuser will be on a high German mount (when observing the zenith)? My guess is 10-11 foot, you'll need a stepladder. |

I am interested in this topic as well. I am on the cusp of purchasing an XT-10, but wanted to know about using it on an Equitorial mount at some point in the future.
If one was going to purchase an equitorial mount for an XT-10, capable of tracking and supporting long exposures, what mount would you recommend? |

To put a 10 inch Newt on an EQ mount take really beefy hardware. Edited to add: It might depend on whether the telescope has to be portable or if it can be installed permanently.

You might download the XT10 instruction manual. I think it has the tube weight. |
