Wink Dual Shadow Transit on Jupiter - Nov 13

For many observers in North America during the early evening of 2007 NOV 13, a number of events will be visible involving the inner three of the four great Galilean satellites of Jupiter.

Io (#1) and Ganymede (#3) will both transit Jupiter. For a while the satellites will be in transit simultaneously.

The shadows of Io and Ganymede will both transit Jupiter. For a while the shadows will be in transit simultaneously.

Europa (#2) will be occulted and eclipsed.

Callisto (#4) will be well to the west of Jupiter and uninvolved in any of the above phenomena, but for a while it will be the only Galilean satellite that is easily visible.

I’ve created two graphics that illustrate the events. The first is a view from far above the north side of Jupiter. The second shows the view from Earth. They can be seen at the webpage noted in my signature.

In the second graphic Jupiter is shown with north at the top. Europa is moving right to left, while the other three satellites and the two shadows are moving left to right. Telescopes invert or flip the image in accordance with their individual designs.

Photos and descriptions of the events would be welcome additions to this thread.

Below is my calculated timetable of the events. Under that is a glossary of terms in the timetable.
