The Lunar X, 2007/11/17 UT
On Friday night, I observed and imaged the so-called Lunar X, or Purbach Cross, a transient illumination phenomenon, from 2:05 to 2:25 UT (9:05 to 9:25 p.m. EST) with the ASH 17" f/15 classical Cassegrain, despite the fact that the Moon was quite low in the sky and was obscured at times by patchy clouds.
Here are two of the better shots that I managed to get of the November apparition of the Lunar X. The first was through the 17" classical Cassegrain at prime focus with my Canon EOS Digital Rebel DSLR. The second image was captured using eyepiece projection through a 32mm Brandon.
The Moon was somewhat atmospherically discolored due to its position close to the horizon. I retained some of the color to make the pictures more representative of what the Moon actually looked like at the time
