What shipping service would you use to send this stuff out past the 250 mile barrier? And how much extra would this be?

I recently sent a 4" refractor halfway across the US in two boxes. Cost about $120 with UPS. Had to do some serious re-inforcing of the bigger box to ensure its survival, though. The 10" Dob would cost a fair bit more, I'd guess.

Ummm ... I wouldn't recommend shipping the car battery, though.

I probably won't end up buying it anyway (don't have the spare money right now). The question is mostly for the majority of our members who don't live within 250 miles of northern Alabama that may want it.

If you were careful, you could probably ship the car battery, as long as it's relatively new. Just make sure it won't fall over and its terminals never connect. An old battery wouldn't be safe for shipment.

I think it would need to go truck line. I would be leary of fedex or ups throwing it around. I suppose I could remove the optics from the OTA. The only extra cost would be the shipping and whatever lumber would be needed. If the buyer were close to a tourist type city I might be able to talk the wife into an overnighter. I will check with some truck lines and get ruff estimates to several large cities around the country.

$1500 is pricy for a 10" Dob without warranty, IMO.

Did you happen to notice the $1300.00 worth of Teleview eyepieces, not to mention the other stuff and a 10" dob?
