I've been looking for my first scope. I've got a fair amount of experience in astronomy as a student and using my dad's stuff before I went off to school. I'm thinking that the Orion Skyview Pro 127 Mak. is the best fit for me in that it provides dual axis drives and a sturdy mount at a price I can deal with. I really want to do wide field piggyback astrophotography with it though. The rings that Orion sells have a piggy back bracket built in but I can't tell if they will fit around the dovetail plate on the bottom of the scope. Do they? And if not, how does one go about piggybacking a camera to this scope?

Hi gth871r.
I can tell you the rings will not go around the plate. Not unless they dramatically changed the design in the past couple of years. The rings have a notch that holds the attachment screws, and those just won't go between the SVP top plate and the 1/4"-20 adapter for the 127 Mak-Cass. |
