I often observe open clusters and like the ones with colorful stars or ones that seem to have star chains or other geometrical patterns.

What features do you enjoy in open clusters when you observe them, whether with binoculars or a scope? Mr Q

The beehive cluster in Cancer because of the "double triangle" of faint stars. Im also quite taken with the coathanger as it was the first faint cluster I tracked down with a scope.

That's a tough call, there are many open clusters I like, all for different reasons. I enjoy the Pleaides in binocs for their brightness, the double cluster since both are visible in a low power eyepiece, etc.

I've always had a sweet spot for M35. Not only was it the first open cluster I'd ever seen (aside from Pleaides of course), but I found it completely by accident. Being the first, I was in complete awe. Was an incredible experience.
