Wink Moon Occults Antares - Aus/NZ - July 14/15

The 87% illuminated waxing gibbous Moon will occult Antares (magnitude +1.1) for observers in New Zealand and western & southern Australia during the night of 2008 JUL 14/15. Immersion will occur on the Moon’s dark limb and emersion on the bright limb.

The northern graze path will cut across Australia from west to east. Observers on the path will be able to see the star winking on and off as lunar hills and valleys pass by. Those south of the path will witness a full occultation. I’ve created a graze map that can be seen by clicking: http://www.curtrenz.com/astronomical.html

For Sydney I predict immersion at 22:00:27 UT+10 and emersion at 23:01:17. For other locations please reply with your longitude, latitude, time zone and altitude above sea level.

Photos and descriptions of the event would be welcome additions to this thread.
