Default Dark Sky Finder for North America

A great link, the author merged the Map of night sky brightness of North America with a road map. You can scroll around and zoom in and out to locations and find a dark site based on the Bortle scale of Light Pollution.

There's another one out there I used to see what was around the DC area--not very much--though it's less automatic--I think amateur astronomers submit locations and their impressions of them.

The International Dark Sky Association has a java-based one on its page too.

This was the site a friend of mine on this forum, Ozzmosis referred me to. I dialed in my home address, then thought something was wrong with the program. I toggled light pollution on and off, and didn't see any difference. All it showed was white. Then I zoomed out to get the big picture, only to find out I live smack-dab in the middle of the white zone near Lost Angeles. No wonder I can't see more than a few stars naked eye at night. It is a great program, though. Thanks for passing on the link to others.

I like this one. It says my limiting magnitude is 6.8 to 7. All this time I've been saying 6.5.
