Default show suggestion: where did Earth's Moon come from?

Do we yet know how the Earth acquired its Moon, and where the Moon came from? And _when_ did Earth get it's moon -- was it always there or is it recent?

I've seen various theories, such as 'it was blasted out of the Earth itself', all the way to 'it was a wandering system-less planetoid that was captured by Earth'. Neither extreme seems likely ... there is probably a simpler explanation.

I'd love to hear a show on the latest theories and ideas about the origins of the Moon.

:-)

I like that, I'll put it on the list. There actually is a lot of good evidence for what happened.

Yeah, that's the prevailing theory. There was some great evidence turned up by the Apollo astronauts.
