In the show Pamela mentioned that there are no nearby giant stars that could cause us any problems, and that the white dwarf systems can be almost impossible to detect. What are the chances that there could be one of these binary systems nearby (in astronomical terms) that could go supernova? Thanks for providing a great show!

I think she said that we've mapped out the nearby area in enough detail to know that there aren't any white dwarfs that could go boom. But they get harder for us to detect a few light years out.
