On CoastToCoastAM, they were talking about Hoagland being NASA Administrator.... ACK

He has some mental issues. I'm surprised he would even consider this. He constantly thinks NASA is involved in some big coverup on Mars as well as other things. Now all of a sudden he wants to be a part of this vast conspiracy? Sounds hypocritical to me.

Hoagland is a hoax merchant, this sort of thing is right up his ally. Anything to get more media coverage and web sales for his merchandise. Truth doesn't come into it - it's only $$$.

Now, now... remember your good science. Don't dismiss the odd sounding idea offhand.
Actually, I'd support it. Then it would be put up or shut up time for Hoagie. And he *is* very gung ho about space and its exploration, so would he really be worse than another pencil pusher? He is also a good salesman, another thing NASA needs. |

I don't think you can afford to have someone who is antagonistic toward an organization in charge of that organization. Remember when Bill Clinton would made that airforce LTC his golf caddy? yikes!
Oh the other hand, if I was the NASA administrator I would at least consider sitting down with hoagland in an open forum and asking, "what can we do with the budget we have, and without sacrificing the science we want to do on Mars that will answer your and other people's questions?" In other words, if hoagie would be satisfied with a lander near cydonia, and if we could do good science there that we were going to do anyway but in another spot, then we should adjust our plans. See, on the one hand, if NASA goes out of its way to answer the woowoos, they reject it outright as fraud or move the goal post and demand more evidence. But if you involve a woowoo up front, then maybe it would be harder to do that. But actually, I know what would happen. The other woowoos would disown hoagie, saying he had sold out to NASA. Actually it might be worth doing it just for that reason alone. hehe. |

Actually, on closer examination I realized the angle of light was tricking me into thinking a big pile of rocks represented something with actual scientific merit.
And, the NASA I want for Xmas??? Awww, I wanted a Nazi flying saucer base in Antarctica play set!

Is it just me....or is Mars interesting enough without having to create sensational stories? I hope we can keep people in charge who recognize the real mysteries we face. These are infinitely more interesting to me than anything Hoagland can dream up.

From the Coast to Coast AM Hoagland segment just after that Bad Astronomer dude was on:
Vote Richard C Hoagland for NASA Administrator Edit: I just noticed some bad astronomy there. It looks like the Sun is right on the limb of Mars, yet most of the portion of Mars toward the observer is illuminated. Curious.

You have been ToSeeked by yours truly.
(Scroll up a few posts.)To phrase as kindly as possible -- what I find to be the least aesthetic element is seeing the image of Hoagland's likeness in such close proximity to HST. Well, that and the fact that anyone would even consider the idea having any merit whatsoever. *cringe* |
