My parents are paying for the parts to my next scope. All I have to do is assemble it

Seriously, adding up various metal fittings, a tripod & equatorial wedge, finderscope, focuser etc etc etc comes to a fair bit, so it's allright with me. I'm just a bit lazy, otherwise the primary mirror would be a lot further along the way than it is. Grind, grind, grind...

I tried hand grinding a mirror once. It went pretty well until the pitch lap step. Then the mirror and the tool got stuck together. Finally got them apart, then they got stuck together again. I gave up on it.

I've been bad this year...plus Santa doesn't come to old folks

However I did go around look at some filters and buying some new equipment before the Christmas, I'm happy with what I'm able to get in the nightsky

I never owned a telescope until this Xmas when I received a Celestron 4.5-inch Newtonian! A nice starter scope.

Of course, it's been cloudy and miserable ever since . . .

I have a pair of Celestron Ultima 9x63's. I bet they are comparable to your Orions. Yes they are awesome.

I got one of these this year. This probably ain't the type of "toy" you're talking about. But given the fact that we just had a big ice storm in this part of the world and I lost about 40 trees (or at least big chunks of 'em), it'll surely come in handy.

My 8" Orion Dob finally came Monday afternoon. I got in a few hours of scope-pushing before heading offshore for a week.

Wish I had it here, what with the 0-degree horizon and all... =D>

Who knew that chainsaws could be used for astronomy?

I got a hangover and a cold. Went drinking with an old friend and stayed out way too long in the snow.

Best holiday I've had in YEARS!

Santa visited me a little late, but it was worth the wait. New additions to the family include a Rigel Quikfinder, TeleVue 35mm Panoptic, and 13mm Nagler Type 6. 8)

And, of course, it's overcast...

Previously forecasted clear skies for new years eve here are now officially canceled.

Got my new binoculars today

My plan to save the effort of buying a tripod separately has failed miserably though.
Should have smelt something fishy about the somewhat "limited" information given regarding the tripod that was bundled with it...
I dont know what purpose this stand is supposed to serve, perhaps supporting a compact camera, surely not few kg binocs, or even any decent slr camera heh. Oh well, i'll know better after trying it outside a bit (sometime on february when the clouds have finally disappeared)

I was thinking of getting a telescope for xmas, but figured there probably isn't any point in having one here in central London. Has anyone here used one in London?

I might as well pack everything up and bring it inside for the rest of the winter, seeing that all those clouds have escaped their little boxes and decided to take up permanent residency over New England.

I got Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. Does that count? It has many weapons not fit for this world. I still have to finish GTA:San Andreas, though.

My big toy present to myself, a 2005 Mustang GT, is still in many thousands of pieces somewhere in Flat Rock, Michigan. Build date is January-ish.

That reminds me. I have a Bad Astronomy posting to do for GTA:SA.

Nice! =D> Please post pictures when it arrives.

And, now I don't feel so bad about my ocular expenditures (just got home with the TV 9mm T6 and 24mm Panoptic to complete my collection). 8-[
