If you turn that image 180°, the combination with the (then) underlying faint crater really looks like a big-headed alien. I fear this will come with some really  claims

Just read on another thread that last night RCH on C2C said something like he has evidence of the "most important discovery in the history of the space program"! 8)

BTW, he looks a bit like a Klingon (the alien, not RCH).

Perhaps both, since there's hardly a woowoo theory that Hoagland doesn't Klingon to.

I hope Hoagland turns the image 180° and edits it a bit, then you really arrive at those "Alien" posters we all had hanging in our rooms too... when we were 14

I know there's something wrong with my sense of humour, but on the link to that picture, this line struck me as funny for some reason:

The 150 meter scale bar is about 164 yards long

Does this mean the Martians were Metric and left scale bars on the surface?

I just Imagined Hoagland announcing the discovery of an alien statue and even a leftover scale bar from during the construction on Mars, clearly indicating the Martians had to stop at instant due to some terrible event which wiped out all intelligent life on Mars. This fact is further proven in the unfinished appearance of the Alien statue.
After that he plugs a link to his discovery of another statue on Mars which honours Mankind (!) (or at least their face), and even a deserted city, partially destroyed in those same terrible events. Their knowledge of the existence of mankind is further proven by the fact that they taught us their Metric system, clearly indicating ancient contact between both species.

Oh no! I think Hoaglandish! (cold shivers)

Nicolas, you jump to conclusions. There is no prove whatsoever that they taught us the metric system. It may well have been the other way around [-(

MAJOR new discovery on Mars:

As spirit reached the top of the hill he has been climbing for the last months, the front camera spotted several strangely looking rectangular rocks, each of approximately the same size. Closer inspection revealed inscriptions on what appeared to be these tablets. What Spirit in fact discovered was a complete transcription of "The Monuments of Mars: A City on the Edge of Forever" on those tablets! It appears that in a distant past, mankind went to Mars and ordered the obviously impressed Martians to build statues to honour them. Furthermore we learnt them the metric system and a cultural leap towards the building of large cities. During some apocalytic event on mars, all Martians were killed and mankind had to return to earth. But the knowledge on this events wasn't lost. It silently passed from generation to generation. One man still knew of these events, and even managed to reproduce the contents of those tablets. Amazing!

So you were right after all Fram, it was us who taught them.

That's really scary. You obviously spent too much time staring at that flag!

You know, when I first read the Subject of this thread, I immediately thought that one of the rovers had found the remains of Timothy Leary.

Far out, man!

It's not an alien head, it's a buried "Shuttle"!

It looks to me like a headshot of Jack the Pumpkin King from The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Phew, what a relief. I have the sense of humour (though not the originality ) of (a) Grey. Does that make me an alien too? 8-[

One could also say that grey is a combination of all colors, just not so intense as white. No relation to the aliens here, at least.
