are you asking about Airy and the Royal Observatory or something more obscure? I got that far earlier but the twin clue loses me

Astrographic twin telescope?
Twin Paradox?

I suspect the lagoon is something astronomical. Mickey is a date rape drug?

You could solve from the first part alone, if you were careful with the measurements.

However you are way out with Airy.

or sounds like a twin (but isn't really)

The Lagoon is not astronomical. But "Mickey" taught us about navigation techniques at the height of her powers.

Looks like you need help.

A minor astronomer - ?This might be subtle?

Prime meridian - ?Or the prime prime meridian?

Mars - ?Red planet in the sky. Very bright?

Twins - ?Usually refers to a constellation?

Mickey - ?Short for Michael?

Lagoon - ?Coastal Lake?

I think you're all stumped.

Hint: A minor astronomer isn't an obscure guy. You might even suggest that he was a giant or collosus in the development of science.

Hint: Look, how many prime meridians can there be?

Very cold. Spirit and Opportunity are not part of the answer.

Yet more hints.

Three guys associated with the same small place are named here. Two of them are classical. Greenwich was not the first prime meridian. There is a famous Italian city on a lagoon, oh and the "A minor astronomer" is so famous he got a satellite mission named after him.

OK, so what do we have so far?

A minor astronomer? maybe Hipparchus, born in Asia Minor. Also the Hipparcos astrometry mission was named after him.

Prime meridian? Instead of Greenwich, maybe Alexandria, which was the PM in Ptolemy's Almagest.

There's a crater on Mars named after Ptolemy, not sure about Hipparchus.

Italian city on a Lagoon? Venice? I dunno. Is there a Venice observatory?

I'm drawing a blank on the Mickey.

Oh and its MER Spirit, not Freedom.

I believe that Hipparchus of Rhodes, a "Colossus" of ancient science, is the A. Minor astronomer in question. His observatory was located, ta dah, on the island of Rhodes, which he proposed as being the prime meridian, and there is a Martian crater named after him.

Ptolemy proposed using the Canary Islands as the prime meridian because of their western location. Michael of Rhodes was in the Venetician navy and wrote a manuscript on navigation.

Well done. Nice and well explained. The twin is Geminus of Rhodes who extended Hipparchos's work in "Isagoge", and is credited with the Antikythera mechanism (first computer).

Your turn to set I think
