azazul,

It's very sad; amazing how quick it happened.

****************
But better news:

I've just posted on scotsons-shack another of my tomes about a new sig generator.

It does stuff like this:

You don't have to supply the graphic, although you can customize. It has 20 different graphics styles, team and individual counter types, and more. The url generator is easy to use.

Comparing this box to my sig, you will notice that the totals are live, not hours behind like the other stats sites.

Since they don't have a value for our team rank, I'm keeping my mundayweb sig for now.

Enjoy!

While it's bad news for azazul personally to miss out on getting into the test, it's indicative of there being a level of interest in the project, which has to be good news overall. I'd rather some people miss out on the beta signup than them not get enough users to do proper testing.

This is alpha testing sign up, not beta testing. I'm sure the beta tests will be bigger so they can load test their servers. Especially given all the trouble people like SETI have had with overloaded servers.

hi, mid

But azazul is in, see for example, here!

My post was unclear: I meant it was sad for anyone who actually did miss out.ops: Say you were on vacation to the mountains for that 5 day period when accounts were available?

gopher,

I agree completely, but alpha won't begin til late July or later, and who knows how long such testing will take?

Meanwhile, of course, we can all continue crunching the heck out of Einstein@Home.

Here you go Minbari.

Code:
[img]http://boincwapstats.sourceforge.net/counter_big.php/id:29624/project:einstein/style:1/p.png[/img]
I think you are just hitting enter when putting it in your sig, but it has to be all together.

Edit: what azazul said.[/edit]

Minbari,

You have to make the tag all on one line.

I split the lines in the code examples because otherwise the page displays too wide, and code tags don't wrap. Nobody likes horizontal scroll bars when reading forums.

So by the time you restore the code to one line and substitute your own ID and graphic style, it's just about as easy to use the URL generator link on the boincwapstats page.

Here should be yours: (just removing the line split from your post)

or in style 16, for example:

Looks good to me, except your credit is getting to close to me!

It means the number you are identified as on the E@H website, yours is 82361. I found it by going to your account on the E@H site, in the URL at the top you have a userid.

Edit: what azazul said. (sigh)

Go to Your account, scroll to bottom & it's the account numer. 4 or 5 digits, not the big long one. Hope I get this in before azazul!!

Sweet thanks. I would never have guessed that. I looked all over the place and couldn't find anything that looked like it might be a ID.

Twas all in jest, Azazul.

BTW, the place where the code wrapped was on a post in another thread down there (about the upcoming webpage) where we created boxes for two projects to simulate what they will look like when when have both o@h and E@H stats to show.

Those are some real long URLs!

The individual ones here are obviously shorter.ops:

So I've edited the post in the Shack describing the graphics.

So now the code doesn't split!!
and
the display doesn't scroll a lot!!

-------------
For completeness, here's an example of a Detailed Counter, in style 14:

Doesn't add much to Big Counter, actually, but pretty pic.

One last thing, maybe worth a post.

The team boxes like gopher65's above rely on there being a unique team name across all projects. So if there were an actual seti@home team named "BABB," for example, it would screw up our cross project stats listing.

So it is indeed a Very Good Thing that you all chose BABB for the names of both of our projects.

Also, the very fact that such boxes currently correctly list only E@H proves there are no other teams named BABB anywhere among the active official BOINC projects.

And if anybody but us dares start a team named BABB, we can sic the BA's stable of lawyers on em.

It's a small price to pay for having scads and scads of "BABB" tabs open in my browser, and I again apologize for ever suggesting any other option. 8)

LOL Ken, defend the mighty public brand awarness of the BABB mark.

Thanks for your help with the BBCODE Ken and azazul I havn't used BBCodes for 6-7 years.

I got the UID thing right first up , but silly me always being in a rush like state at the moment, didnt realize there was a line gap

I have you in my sites Azazal, though I won't be able stay up above 600 for long, as the crunch master (proxima) has its CPU's cooking for most of the night on other tasks

We're glad to help, Minbari. BTW most of the boxes are not displaying for me on this page ATM, even after several refreshes. Let me know if this behaviour is general and I'll delete the samples from my post and see if that helps. It's clear that these are very popular, and even with lots of mirrors, there are problems. Just look at your status line while refreshing to see all the servers that get used to paint this page. Hopefully in a more normal page with only a few sigs and no samples, display with be less error prone.

Thanks to mickal =D>, there are now 2 pages of screencaps of all 20 styles, so you can compare the graphics & choose a style without guesswork (and load on their servers. ) The pics are linked from the "BOINC Graphical Signatures" thread at Scotsons Shack.

I know it means an additional forum registration---worth it IMO, but maybe it would be polite to the BA to have some of the discussion which is purely about these siggies take place in that thread?

I don't mean to be extra curmudgeonly about this, and I do think discussion of these sigs is on topic---live updates of credit and beautiful graphics can't help but spread interest in the BABB teams, and thus spread the March of Scientific Progress in the 21st Century.

Hmm, if you have azazul in your sights, by transitivity you have me in your sights.

I've already mentioned to him what I now call the nuclear option. I believe it has him appropriately cowed.

You just won't go away will you, I passed you like a month ago but you are still right there. I guess I will just have to go get another processor and set up another computer then.

When you go to create an account now, you get this:

Sorry, this project has disabled the creation of new accounts. We plan to enable again account creation during the beta testing, probably in November 2005. Thank you for your interest in supporting orbit@home, we hope you will join us then.
So good news, it's an open beta, and bad news, well, November for folks who didn't get to register.

Earlier posts by PT over at o@h have it that the alpha test is set to begin in late July or maybe August.

(edited about the alpha after mickal's post.)

BABB - einstein@home has just passed 800,000 credits aand are within 400 credits of SV Aragao, which passed us last month and was ~10,000 ahead of BABB 2 weeks ago.
Good Job team and welcome to all the new members.
I'd also like to repost here what I posted at Scotsons Shack:
I'd also like to add a Thank you to you, Ken, for all the work you've put into creating and maintaining the BABB einstein@home and orbit@home teams!

Oh dear, that's what I get for posting just before nap time...Somewhere earlier I think it was mentioned that the alpha test was to begin in late July or maybe August. So, optimisticly, just a month to wait for those who've registered. Will edit above in a minute.ops:

But dates do slip; they never come earlier, ask MS.

And by exactly 216 points at this moment, we have re-passed SV Aragao into 32nd place or 20th (hex) or 10000b.

Nice round numbers all of them; and all of this with most of tmosher's boxes still in packing boxes in Savannah! So I echo Klaus on the good going to all team members, big time. =D>=D>=D>

Our RAC is now about 500 above them, so we might just stay this time.

Thanks also to Klaus, and a big Aw Shucks, for the kind words. Somehow, I can't figure out how to edit out the large type from his quote, just at the moment.8)

orbit@home

Here's a great 3 post thread wherein PT talks about the data collection, open-sourceness, etc, of o@H:

Some snips:

And then there's this thread, about minimum BOINC requirements.

Elsewhere, it had been mentioned that a linux version of o@h would be available first,

Me and linux have not got along well in the past, but, boy is that tempting!

Do you still need a FAT partition to write to?

By networking, does he mean internet or local? I can't imagine myself ever succeeding in getting a box running linux to talk to XP, but if you could, the whole thing could be controlled remotely from BOINCview and you'd never have to know anything about linux!

Please understand, I love linux, just we haven't got along in the past with several attempts, and at my age you have to start saying that there are some things not worth it to start in learning. C+, I put right up there, for example. But to repeat, I love linux.

Knoppix creates a virtual Harddrive in your Memory.
It sets all your Harddiks unwritable.

All you have to do is setup your "internet connection", that is what he meant.

Laguna2,

Thanks for the info---what happens if you lose power, you'd lose your current WU and have to reinstall, or not?

Indeed you'd have to re-download BOINC, since there would be no local copy?

It seems I once tried a CD version of linux that could read and write to/from a FAT directory; is this wrong?

And a warm welcome to the thread. I didn't realize BOINCsynergy did php-compatible stats boxes, or is that html?

Thanks Azazul, einstein dosn't like sending completed work via my new firewalls,it keeps on malforming the request spitting out an icomplete request message. Though there are no problems downaloding new data to crunch when it needs, so I have to open up the firewall for a few seconds each day to push the completed data sets and some other bits of spurious traffic.

WOW thats good news to see we have passed SVargo

Thanks for the interesting tid bits in relation to OH Ken.

I am reluctant to say that this machine will be getting 2 dual core 2.2Ghz chips under the hood in 6 weeks, spare time available will help out some more.
