Default Herschel Observatory Infrared - 2nd Lagrange point

Herschel ESA's Space Observatory will be located 1.5 million kilometres away from Earth at the second Lagrange point European Space Agency's Herschel Space Observatory (formerly called Far Infrared and Sub-millimetre Telescope or FIRST) launches July 2007. The cryostat technology developed for the ISO mission will enable Herschel to have cooling to within 0.3 degrees of absolute zero. Herschel’s 3.5-metre diameter mirror will collect long-wavelength infrared radiation from some of the coolest and most distant objects in the Universe. The Herschel Space Observatory observe at wavelengths never covered before.
