That's right, although the telescope size doesn't really matter in this case. All of these discoveries are made with relatively small telescopes. The very large telescopes are needed when the properties of these objects are measured.

No doubt about that. When the new all-sky surveys like Pan-STARRS start, we will see much higher discovery rate.

Not really. We have now CCD cameras that can cover larger areas in shorter exposure times, plus we have computers to detect moving objects.

...or not, that's why astronomers are not eager to call these newfound objects planets. Pluto is a called planet only because at the time of its discovery it was tought to be much larger and no Kuiper belt was known to exist.
