Between the years 1400-1000 B.C, after prophet Moses died, a prophit called Youshe' Bin Noon was to occupy Jerusalem city, but while he was in Jericho city, which is nearly 31 km away from Jerusalem, the sun was in the middle of the sky, and he was to reach before the sunset, so he said to the sun to stop moving while he reach Jerusalem. And actually the sun stopped moving for some hours to let him reach before eveninig. And it was his miracle.
I read this article in a relegion article but don't know whether it is written in the Bible. I wish you were able to proove this theory scientifically.

Better tread carefully on this forum when it comes to religion. You haven't crossed that line yet, so don't.

Without getting too detailed myself, the incident you described is simular to one in Joshua chapter 10. I'll leave it at that and you can read it yourself.

As for scientific evidence to support the story, I'm not aware of any.

I find these stories, notwithstanding their authenticity, absolutely incredible.

Can you imagine what would happen if the earth just stopped revolving for awhile? Like a collision - the whole surface of the earth would continue revolving for awhile killing EVERYTHING and making a hellova mess.

FYI - a few years ago I read a NASA account of their attempt to extrapolate something and they were a day out in their results - until someone explained the Joshua Story.

Gee - I dunno?

Yes, as one witty individual put it, if the earth had stopped spinning, Joshua would have fallen over and rolled several hundred miles.

On the other hand, in fairness to Anan, he didn't say hte earth stopped rotating. He said the sun stood still. And since Copernicus, we all agree with him.

Most days of the year it would not be impossible for a healthy man to walk 31 kilometers from about noon to sunset, even if the sun didn't stop in the sky. This requires only a pace of about 6 kilometers/hour for five hours.

The story may be a miracle of the personal focus by Youshe' Bin Noon, who didn't stop to smell the roses. BTW, I don't find a mention of this event by doing a Google search.

I did see a report on the parting of the Red Sea, where it was threorized that consistent winds at a low point coupled with an extremely low tide could have revealed some land to walk across.

But this one, I'll give it a try. There is a researcher who has dissolved the minerals out of asteroid material and found it to be full of microscopic particles of diamond dust. Perhaps a cloud of this dust passed between the Earth and the sun and it refracted the sunlight during its transit, thereby extending the day.

I believe in miracles. Last night I thought I'd polished off my last beer. I looked in my fridge and - LO and BEHOLD! - I found another one. Miracle! When I finished that one, I looked again and found yet another hidden up the back there behind some mouldy vegetables! Double miracle!!!

And ya looked again and, Lo and Behold, there was a couple of mouldy cigars hidden behind the partly-consumed yogurt - geez - ANOTHER miracle!

I can't offer any scientific evidence though I can offer some common sense.

If the man were walking from morning to night at a brisk pace, during the long days of the year, it is possible to walk well over 35 km. Heck if I can hike 2 km in 40 minutes through town without trying to walk fast, a person in good shape could do it.

And as noted if it were the longer days of the year where the sun may be visibile for 17 hours or more, it wouldn't take much to accomplish what the story lays out.

Peter Canuck, Chapter 3, verse 1-4

On the other hand a miracle may be defined as:
A phenomena which may not yet be explained by known laws of nature (but may be explained if those laws were known.)

I've got no problem with miracles.

(Take a transister radio to primatives and it would be a miracle to them.)

Exactly Chook - what's that famous quote again? Something about an advanced civilisation appearing magical to a lesser one?
