The thing is that we do not know and that is why we are trying to figure it out with the use of analogies and any other useful picture that we can paint.
Why do you refuse to believe such an analogy. when mounting criticism, it is only proper to state the grounds of the refutation. I think that the analogy hold in that Dr. Hawking believes, from what I understand, in the closed universe theory (I forget the proper term). Essentially he believes that the universe is closed sphere like the earth, much like the balloon analogy. (I think?)

Hi this is one theory you may come to a end with...

well, theories suggest of such a compelling story is very complex. the theories suggest many universes are held together like a loaf of bread each slice a universe. these 'Mega loaf universes' are all floating around, then they are to say 2 of these 'Mega loaf universes' collided creating a blast of unimaginable power and heat to form the bases of the further knowledge of what happens next. Yet this is still a theory, so dont knock on my doorstep complaining or objecting to me.

Well that is certainly a very interesting idea.

Where did you read about this? Who is the author (or who are the authors) of this?

And, in keeping with the intent of this thread, are you saying that the BB was created as a collision of two 'Mega loaf universes'?

What do they float around in? It's difficult to stray from Euclidian 3-space as a place holder for the one true universe .

If nothing existed before the big bang, and the vacuum of space it'self is infinite and the big bang to create our universe just suddenly appeared out of nowhere then surely this wouldn't be a one off occurence and is happening an infinite amount of times? Thinking this was the only big bang to appear out of nowhere is like thinking Earth is the only planet with life. While it's possible, it would seem very unlikely. Hope this makes sense.
