I don't have it on my obsolete computer (>pedal faster!<), but Li'l Minx (my carer/partner/anchor to reality) does (just found out she's been sneaking peaks at this forum to see what I've been up to...hello Minx! )

Has anybody else had a play with GoogleEarth?

Google maps is cool, but not anything that threatens security, like the article states. The maps are up to three years old in some cases (the case of my house) and still only provide limited detail.

At the flying club here I can spend CAN$52 and rent a Cessna 152 for an hour. I can take realtime video, to-the-date aerial shots, and I can even bring along IR sensors and high-powered cameras to take overhead/oblique/any angle I want images. Its not new, just neat.

Yeah, same with our place...but the inner metro ones seem a bit more up to date...Minx zoomed in on the site where she works as OHS manager (>think< tyrant...she makes her bosses sit up and take notice!...even the national bosses! :P )...and spotted a tiny orange dot on the roof...that was her! ...in safety gear...inspecting the roof ...confirmed by picking out her car in the carpark...

But I love it for the amazing detail of surface geology in the regions...
And, oh boy! Just can't wait until every planet/moon/'big round thing' in our system is mapped to this level of resolution!

It was one of the cool little things Google does every so often. They released it a month ago to celebrate the anniversary of Eagle landing at Tranquility.
