New discoveries about the timing and speed of gigantic, 6500-foot (2-km) thick lava flows that poured out of the ground 65 million years ago could shift the blame for killing the dinos.

Caltech postgrads Leitch EM, and Vasicht G (1997; 'Mass extinctions and the Sun's encounters with spiral arms' in New Astronomy Vol3 No1, pp51-56) came close to finding a couple of clues... :mellow:
