The new article in Physics Web, is interesting in that is presents a bit of new stuff without simply stating it as fact. It says, here is some evidence, and models suggest that it means some very strange thing - the topology of the Universe may be a hyper soccer ball. It also talks about what kinds of evidence could overthrow these ideas. I liked it even better than the Scientific American article from February.

The new Physics Web article has an even larger size for the observable universe. This makes sense as its a newer article, and the Universe has expanded in the meantime.

I want to know what happens in space at the corners. If the corners exist, does that mean that there really is a center of the Universe after all?

A few times a year we see a new story or press release about this idea. I think perhaps it is such a science-fictiony kind of idea that it catches the imagination. While the idea can't be ruled out by current measurements (and according to this article could be ruled out in five to ten years by Planck results), I don't think it really stands as a good bet.
