Why because we have a tendicy to name anything that we come upon so we can classify it. If we keep naming anything that is a moon without limits, its going to be pretty hard putting them in books. With hundreds of moons for Jupiter, Saturn, etc...

As being out of control, if we really are; it be like naming every blade of grass in a meadow. As there are thousands of ~1km or less objects in our solar system. Only the important ones should be named.

Angry romance

Where is the romance in taking a friend out in the moonlight when there are hundreds out there, most of which you can't see.
Why else do we need a moon?

I like this topic! There is only one Moon, that's why we call it the Moon. In my opinion it is a small planet; one of about a dozen small planets that are trapped in orbit around a larger planet. I would call all of them planets--Io, Triton, etc. Anything that doesn't have a spherical shape is a satelite. It doesn't make any sense to me to have a so called moon that is larger than the smallest planet. One of my biggest complaints about scientist is that they spend so much time and effort trying to classify everything as if there was a right way to do so. Our science students spend most of their undergraduate years just learning the terms and language of science as opposed to learning ABOUT science. That's another can of worms.
