Hi,

I was just reading about some of the bad astronomy in the original Star Wars film and a question has sprung to mind.

Assuming you were to build your very own Death Star, and, assuming it had sufficient mass to generate its own gravitational field, what happens to gravity as you get closer to the center of the ship (lets not assume that the gravity field generators would account for this) ?

Or... put another way... if you suddenly found yourself as Doug McClure, what would you find happens to gravity as you travelled towards the center of a gravitating mass like a planet (assuming the dinosaurs didn't eat you) ?

Does the gravity stay the same all the way down, and just flip over as you pass the middle, or does it decrease as you get closer ? Does the mass above you start doing wierd things to the gravity 'below' you ?

Just wondering... (and, for good measure, lets assume you work for International Rescue and that the Mole is heat proof).

Ross

Welcome to the board, Ross. I used the search engine on "gravity earth center" and found this old thread: question about gravity. That may answer your question, though I don't think it talks about Death Stars.
