Thanks Wolverine, for that note.
Those who did install the beta might want to remove the 'app_info.xml file, as per Quote:
Removing this file caused no problems on my machines. On my systems, BOINC deleted the old 4.02 app after it started using 4.24, but if you do delete the app_info.xml, you should make sure that 4.02 is also gone, or BOINC might get confused. Since 4.24 went official, credit has been reduced, for the long apps anyway, down to about 147, an approximate 20% drop. Since the speed gain was more than that, I think E@H gains a bit relative to other projects, though of course the short-lived advantage we had as beta testers is now gone. Quote:
Unfortunately, I think SETI, like most projects, only credits to the team the work you do as a member of it; previous work stays with your previous team (if any). But of course your previous credit stays with you individually, and somewhat confusingly, your total credit is included in the team totals of some of the stats sites. Regardless, good to have you on board. ![]() |

Well I am glad I cam across this post. I have heard about thees projects before but did not know anything about them.
I did sign up and I think this is a very cool idea and am happy to participate.

I am back, it seems that I missed some fun with beta testing. Well, my credit should slowly climb back to about where it was. It depends how quickly I set up the rest of my computers.
Welcome to obscured by clouds and LazyCat, I hope you enjoy crunching for the BAUT team. |

Thanks for the welcome.
Congratulations to Nereid for reaching 300,000 credits and to Udo for reaching 500,000 credits. |

Hey, yeah!!
Welcome back, azazul! ![]() _______ And a final note about the beta, after giving a couple of my WU 147, E@H revised the credit downward to about 121, so the reduction is now pretty much in line with the speed up (~121/177). Science-wise, S5 is now 16% done, with a projected 340 days remaining. Probability wise, does this mean the chances of finding anything are now very poor? |

2 of my servers continued crunchung during my vacation... so I nearly reached the 500K while being absent... One more advantage of my holidays is that I didn't had to beta test / distribute the new application. My home and my office PCs directly got the new application with the new WUs... Fine work Akos and Bernd! I also uploaded some rersults for CPDN... that should boost then BAUT RAC up... Quote:

I don't know, I'm probably misunderstanding the search method, but I thought that if they have searched 16% of the sky and not yet found the signature of a pulsar, that the odds of finding, say, 10 or more begin to decrease? Maybe they are keeping the results secret until all the data is analysed, but I would have thought that both the main experiment and E@H would be eager to announce any positive result for LIGO as soon as possible... But this is totally uninformed speculation by a mere cruncher, I certainly have no understanding on which to base it... ![]() More generally, I have been thinking lately that it would be good for BOINC if one or the other of their projects had a publicizable positive result... Yes there was a Nature paper from CPDN and LHC@home has reportedly helped much with the design of the LHC, and perhaps there have been some biology papers, but a definitive positive result is still missing, AFAIK? Not that I would stop crunching if ET is not found next week -- not a chance of that! ![]() |

As far as the lack of results by BOINC, I believe you are correct, as far as I know there has been nothing big found by the projects, at least not some groundbreaking discovery. But, I feel that it is only a matter of time before there is a breakthrough, then after that, I am sure there will be many more to follow. |

![]() Too bad F@H is (still) not available under BOINC, AFAIK. ______ And congratulations to our founder azazul for reaching 300,000 in E@H. ![]() I think I've been overlooking recent members of the 100K club, so blanket congrats to Klausnh, Michael Brehmer, Minbari, bit-man, and gethen for reaching this milestone in overall and/or E@H credit. And any other milestones I've forgotten... ![]() And thanks also to quite a few recent joinees, we are now up to 141 members. It's especially gratifying to me that we have increasing numbers of folks crunching the smaller projects, indeed non-Einsteinian credit is now over one million. ![]() Congrats to everyone! |

They say they understand the problems & they should be fixed tomorrow, but if you've detached or suspended the project, consider waiting to rejoin -- though of course the supply of WUs will go fast no doubt. Anyone who gets WUs that complete successfully, and then update and upload OK might post back here to let others know? The WUs have slightly different names than the earlier ones, probably just for testing so far, but the app is still sixtrack 4.67; this is not the rumored follow-on "Garfield" app, which may extend the life of LHC@home beyond the collider's design stage. |

Leiden Classical, a project I've mentioned a time or two here, is now open to account creation and, many thanks to azazul, there is now a BAUT team for the project.
![]() Note that is still officially considered an alpha project, but many folks, including myself, have been running it for quite some time with no problems. There are more details in this thread in azazul's CPM forum, but in brief, Leiden Classical computes the forces between molecules or larger systems using classical dynamics. The Work Units are very short & disk space requirements are low. IMO, it is a fine project for an older computer, or to use as a backup with low priority. At the time of writing, as you can see from the stats box, the BAUT Leiden subteam has not amassed too very much credit, but watch us grow!! ![]() We are already ahead of Orbit in total credit, and in RAC, the subteam is already ahead of Orbit, LHC, and really, Predictor (since it's offline)!!! ![]() So watch out for Leiden Classical's BAUT team... ![]() _______ To finish the above discussion about LHC, the test WUs eventually uploaded, and I did get one 'real' one, which failed at 77%. Since then there have been no more WUs sent, though hope remains. You can check out the cool graphs by Scarecrow, particularly of Results Ready to Send for the last 30 days, to see any spikes in activity. @obscured by clouds: Feel free to brag here anytime! And your Recent Average Credit is now 26th place, so you'll definitely continue to move up. ![]() |
