I think it was 4.24. They now have 4.30 out and it seems about the same.

Are we talking BOINC or something else? My BOINC version is 5.8.11.

No, the application for Einstein@home. The current app is 4.33 which seems about the same as well.

The applications of the projects you are connected to, is distributed by the project itself. You have nothing to do.
Sometimes there is a beta version of the application which you may like to test. Then you have to do the installation manually - but that will be described on the project web page.

The BOINC client software has to be installed (and upgraded) by yourself...

regards,
Udo

The next run (S5R3) of Einstein WU's have started. It appears at this point that the new WU's are slightly slower in terms of credits/sec, but they are shorter than the R2 (see this thread).

Now that sounds great. I am really, really dissapointed with the current WUs. I have two comp. and one of them i don't use that much as the other one, and i have huge problems doing the S5R2 WUs in time. I guess i'm not the only one, because i would say i use both comp. pretty much, and the one i use least is probably used more than quite many other people...

my computer at home, which was not used so often, took 300.000 seconds for the big S5R2 WUs. So I stopped using this computer for E@H.
But the new S5R3 WUs 'only' take 100.000 seconds... thats ok, and the WUs get finished within the 2 week deadline.

And an other Info from E@H:

Oct 2, 2007
The S5 science run, whose goal was to accumulate one year of triple-coincident data at LIGO design sensitivity, officially ended at 00:00 UTC October 1, 2007. This completes the data-taking stage of a project which was officially begun in 1992 by Kip Thorne, Ron Drever, and Rainer Weiss. LIGO will now undergo two planned upgrades to improve sensitivity. The first of these upgrades (Enhanced LIGO) will be followed by the S6 science run, anticipated for 2009. Einstein@Home is now busy searching the S5 data set. The Einstein@Home S4 postprocessing and analysis are largely complete and under review by the LIGO Scientific Collaboration. We hope to provide updates about these results before the end of this year.

Yeah, it seems that i can make the new one in time without big problems. But now we only have two weeks to complete them - how much did we have before on the S5R2?

originally S5R2 had a 2 week deadline.
But after many complaints the deadline was adjusted on a variable basis... the 'shorter' units remained with a 2 week deadline, the longer ones got a 3 week deadline.

I think S5R3 has only 'shorter' WUs with a 2 week deadline. I don't know, if longer WUs in S5R3 would have a 3 week deadline...

But all in all i don't see why they have such a rush getting them done. They could wait three months or more. Their only wait would be after reach run. But they would get more processors and get the job done earlier anyways.

The problem is that each workunit is sent to different machines.
If they had a three month or even longer deadline, WUs that returned not enough results for the quorum, would just lie around and fill up the pending work statistics and, far worse, the database.

Well, they have tons lying around now anyways. They have all of the WUs in the database before the processing actually stars. The work doesn't go slower, the results just come in later, that's all.

Right, but if they would have all the results they have sent on plus in their database for months, the DB would get even bigger as it already is, giving more stress to the server, asking possibly for a larger one...
I have seen new projects that failed because of an overloaded DB.

I thought all the WUs already were in the database. But yes, that's true. However, i know it isn't free of charge, but if they expanded the amount of servers they could get more users running their applications and thereby get a little more work done. So i hope they are planning on getting more servers for all the work, which hopefully give us longer processing times though the new search has improved the processing times greatly.

I've joined the BAUT team for Rosetta, Seti, ClimatePrediction, and LHC. For some reason my LHC isn't working. It says that communications are defered. Can anyone help me?

Welcome to the team, Paradox244!

LHC@Home currently has no work available, which is why you are getting the Deferring Communication message. They haven't had many work units in a while. This is most likely because LHC@Home was created to help build the LHC, which is now completed, but not up and running. They are currently testing it out to be sure it operates correctly. As far as I know, they will keep LHC@Home going though, analyzing the data recorded. So basically, there is no work right now and probably won't be any for a good while, but when the LHC is up and running, I am sure there will be plenty of work units.
