You are right Udo, I'll not bother you again.

Unhappy

@ Udo,

Could you give step-by-step instructions on how to install S5T0712?

I made an attempt using the files from your post, and it appears that I may have messed up all of my current WU's on that machine.

I tried to go back to S5T0711, but when I start a new WU it immediately says "Computation Error." I backed up the einstein.phys.uwm.edu directory before I started, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.

Hello Laser Jock,
to clean up your project and to return to the original app, remove the app_info.xml file and restore the original einstein_S5R1_4.02_windows_intelx86.exe (or just delete it, it will be downloaded again).
If your queue is not empty, then check client_state.xml:

In the following section:
Code:
<app_version>
    <app_name>einstein_S5R1</app_name>
    <version_num>410</version_num>
    <file_ref>
        <file_name>einstein_S5R1_4.10_windows_intelx86.exe</file_name>
        <main_program/>
    </file_ref>
    <file_ref>
        <file_name>einstein_S5R1_4.10_windows_intelx86.pdb</file_name>
    </file_ref>
</app_version>
change all 410 to 402 and all 4.10 to 4.02.

in section:
Code:
<workunit>
    <name>l1_0488.5_S5R1__49_S5R1a</name>
    <app_name>einstein_S5R1</app_name>
    <version_num>410</version_num>
...
change 410 to 402

in section:
Code:
<active_task>
    <project_master_url>http://einstein.phys.uwm.edu/</project_master_url>
    <result_name>l1_0488.5_S5R1__49_S5R1a_1</result_name>
    <active_task_state>2</active_task_state>
    <app_version_num>410</app_version_num>
    <slot>1</slot>
also change 410 to 402

I'm not sure if you have to change the section
Code:
<file_info>
    <name>einstein_S5R1_4.10_windows_intelx86.pdb</name>
    <nbytes>0.000000</nbytes>
    <max_nbytes>0.000000</max_nbytes>
    <status>1</status>
    <signature_required/>
</file_info>
<file_info>
    <name>einstein_S5R1_4.10_windows_intelx86.exe</name>
    <nbytes>0.000000</nbytes>
    <max_nbytes>0.000000</max_nbytes>
    <status>1</status>
    <signature_required/>
</file_info>
either change 4.10 to 4.02 or just remove both entries...

BUT: I have not yet done it myself!
I had just switched to S5S0007 on my cmputers. And when I tried to install S5T0712 on my XEON system I got other problems (access violation)...
So I have no computer running with the app_info.xml file and 4.10...

hope I could help...

Udo

Thanks Udo. I was able to get the thing to stop killing WU's by resetting the project. I didn't know what I was doing; next time I'll ask you (if there is a next time) before I mess with things.

It is a pity, but it appears that the scientific community will not accept results from an unofficial app. Things are still a little unclear, but it seems that we should all go back to the standard app for now.

Hey ToSeek, I was wondering if you had decided on another project or if you wanted more information on any of them.

I need to have a look at the options. Right now I have other computer issues (just bought a laptop and am trying to get the home network put together). But thanks for asking.

No problem, just let us know if you have questions about a particular project or if you would like an overview of some of them.

Thumbs up

The E@H total credit has just passed 4 million.

Great job by all.

Default Summer vacation

Indeed congratulations for reaching 4 million credits...

I'm preparing for my summer vacation (starting on 20th of july)... cleaning my E@H WU cache to finish all WUs in time...
2 computers will continue E@H and one office server will run CPDN...

By the way, I started 3 CPDN WUs on an other office server (a 4 CPU Server).
I think after my vacation (mid of august) I will return a lot of CPDN tickles...

I wish you a happy summer and a successful E@H computation...

Udo

Google compute(folding@home) is now stopped; if you were running googlecompute you will have to download folding@home from the folding@home website. Shame, I liked the little double helix icon that gave you the x% of work completed.

Hello Frog March, I did not know much about the folding@home project since it is not yet a part of BOINC. After your post I went looking for more information and found that they intend to add a client for BOINC but have had a few setbacks.

How long have you been contributing to folding@home?

Azazul, sometime back you set up a SZTAKI Desktop Grid BAUT team. However, SZTAKI is still not mentioned on the team homepage or stats. Do you think you will have a chance to add it soon?

From what I have read, they want to make a BOINC platform but have had trouble because it was created pre-BOINC. I hope that they get it figured out soon.

I think it is good that google made this available on their toolbar. I am sure it has made many people aware of distributed computing.

I just returned my last Einstein WU from my home PC...
On saturday I will start my vacation and I will be absent for 4 weeks...
Just two servers will continue processing E@H WUs... two other Servers at my office will continue CPDN WUs...

I wish you a successful computation and I hope you can enjoy the summer and(or) any vacation you have...

I have only one more WU left on my home computer and than I need to take it down for the move. I should be able to get it back up in a week or so.

My two work computers are already finished. It may be a while before I get a new computer at my new job; the official start date is not until August 28.

Exclamation this time it's official

New official Windows beta E@H app announced here.

Early reports look good; with fixed credit given per WU type, the speed increase will directly translate to greater credit.

The process uses your old 4.02 app to complete in-progress WUs first (if you run BOINC 5.x); since both my machines are on long WUs ATM, I won't know for some hours how much faster the new app is, or even if 4.24 works...

Complete instructions here. AFAIK, the warning about losing WUs only applies if you are still using BOINC version 4.x. (My 4.02 WU resumed just fine.)

If anyone else on the team is not on vacation, I'd be grateful for reports.

One can only presume that since it is an official release, its use in crunching S5 data will pass muster with journal referees...
