Default A rock star's thoughts on Deep Impact (I know - this is old news at this point)

The Deep Impact mission is old news at this point, but here is something that I find interesting:

http://www.brianmay.com/brian/brians...nssbjun05.html

Some of you may already know that guitarist Brian May of Queen has a degree in Astrophysics (one website says that he has a doctorate in this).
On the above link, if you scroll down a bit to June 18, you will find a discussion relating to the Deep Impact mission. Brian was adamantly against it, out of concern that the collision might possibly destory the comet ("if...it turns out to be a delicate honeycombe structure"). His are the only negative comments about the mission that I've seen. Was Brian alone in his thoughts?
Was there any possibility, based on what we knew before the impact, that he may have been right?

Rock stars are required by law to be "against" everything. Can't be angsty any other way.
