**Edit**
How did my post end up at the top of this thread, and my name as the starter of the post. I was about the 5th person to post to this thread, not the OP.

Read the last few posts on this thread. I used my telescope to follow a waxing gibbous moon up to the full phase to see how close the Moon needed to be from the "anti-sol" point to appear completely full.

How does Moon look from southern hemisphere?

Smile never

The full moon is always one night. It's waxing before, and waning after.

See also Astronomy topic Do U Recall ever seeing a Full Moon more than one night in a row ?

(One topic on a subject is usually sufficient -- I'm not sure this one is in the right forum. [Edit to clarify since move: it was in Bad Astronomy Stories.])

30minute, how people interpret "almost" will affect the answers you get. What does it mean to you? Is 95% full almost full? 90%? 80%?

I answered "3", but it's generally hard to tell if the Moon is truly full for a night or two before and after.

Actually the moon will never be truly "full" anymore, since the astronauts (and Soviet probes) brought back pieces, thereof.

Seriously, I believe I can see a distinct difference between an 85-95% gibbous moon and a truly full moon, on a night-to-night basis. I can always tell, "tomorrow the moon will be full", or, "it was full yesterday", or, "it will peak tonight sometime".

For what it's worth, on a good night I can just tell when the Moon is past or not quite full, by seeing any hint of fuzziness on either limb. But normally it is difficult for a few days, especially when it's high and dazzling, as during our northern winter.

How did I get listed as the original poster in this thread? I was about the 5th person to post.

You posted during the few hours yesterday when the server was living 5 hours in the past. See topic "Time" Fluctuating (weird)

hmm

It's only full for one instant, noon (Moon time, central), but it appears full enough the day before and the day after that I'll say three. I can tell when it is full and when it is not the night before or the night after however.

I remember that thread. Spooky.

I chose 1, but I was thinking in moon "days". Is it more than 1? If so, why?
mickal's post makes sense.
