Default George Deutsch acussed of censoring NASA, resigns in shame ?

Is he gone ? I saw a few articles on the web

Several NASA scientists and public affairs officials said they had been pressured by Deutsch and other political appointees to limit or slant discussions of topics uncomfortable to the administration, Deutsch the USA's young presidential appointee at NASA who was telling PR workers to limit the media/press to climate scientists

http://www.physorg.com/news10659.html
http://science.slashdot.org/article..../02/08/1240226
and George Deutsch was also telling NASA web designers to add the word "theory" at every mention of the Big Bang, seems to have resigned

Mike Griffin the NASA Administrator and his statement on Scientific Openness

Sad to see this type of scandal going on, I hope this doesn't effect NASA to much, and everyone can move forward again.

Yes, the boob is gone.

I do not understand the purpose of appointing unqualified candidates to ANY position simply as a form of political payback. What's next... the Supreme Court?

oh wait....

That appears to be the end of this guy at NASA

Let us hope that the future exploration plans such as Kepler, Dawn, Stereo and the unmanned plus manned vision for Mars will continue and NASA won't be hindered by this scandalous GeorgeDeutsch person. I wonder what would have happened had he not been questioned and resigned, would he have censored WMAP, blocked Earth observation sats or stopped study of the cosmic microwave background ? Well it seems that he's history now, hopefully this won't do anything to the budget.

According to the Bad Astronomer, Deutsch probably resigned becaused he lied in his résumé.

He had it coming, and I doubt that he would have stuck around too much longer even if he hadn't lied about his degree.

PS, quote from the first article:

Quote:
Astronomer Phil Plait, who runs the badastronomy.com Web site, was incensed over Deutsch's actions.

"There are so many issues about the Deutsch affair that it's hard to know which one to be most outraged about," Plait said in an e-mail. "But I suspect that in the long run it's the culture of anti-scientific attitudes, the suppression of science, that's the most disturbing and the most damaging."

Hmm, stirring the pot again Phil?

I like the fact it was a recent (May '05) Texas Aggie grad., Nick Anthis, that caught him.

Rick Casey had a good column about this in the Houston Chronicle:
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/...y/3649254.html

But had Deutsch majored in science, he might have understood that the scientific definition of "theory" is a bit more rigorous than the meaning found in common usage.
