Default "Pluton" and other science words with multiple meanings

Anybody else annoyed that the new coined word "pluton" happens to be exactly the same as the geologically defined "pluton" which is a large intrusive igneous rock body. There are enough letters in the alphabet to come up with new science words that don't overlap with other definitions. Planetary geologists especially are going to have 2 identical words meaning 2 different things within their field. And since I brought it up we might as well use this thread to talk about other words that have multiple meanings in different branches of science.

I agree with you on the word pluton, which is one of the reasons I have my doubts that it will ever be adopted. Its just seems like inappropriate, and ill thought out nomenclature - almost an attempt at being cute, something I don't really like.

planetoid or MINOR planet. They specifically reject a valid label in favor of a term already in use in a related science. What's wrong with plutino? or is that too close to plutonium?

Plutino is a term already in use in astronomy.

Worse yet, the equivalent of "Pluto" and the equivalent of "pluton" will sound exactly the same in several languages. Perhaps they should call them "plutoids".
