ok, I admit, I don't know much about the Ozone, but is any of this truthful? Or just woo-central?

Yes, there is a large hole in the ozone layer. Although it doesn't really effect most people directly, I live close enough to be exposed to higher level of UV than I would be otherwise. There are two causes for the hole. One is the weather conditions over Antartica and the other is the presence of ozone destroying chemicals in the atmosphere. These factors work together. Fortunately bans on the use of many of these chemicals means that the hole should gradually get smaller over the years. Unfortunately some of these chemicals can persist for many decades so it will take a while for ozone to return to the condition it was in 50 years ago.

On the bright side, ozone is a greenhouse gas and the hole helps keep the earth cool, although that fact doesn't make me incredibly cheerful since I live so close to it.
