Default Lunar Eclipse Pics...

Well tonights eclipse was really cool. It is the first time i have seen one. I could see it perfectly from my portch i all i can say is "wow"

Here are two of the best of the pics i was able to take with my digital camera. Sorry for the quality, i don't have a telescope and this is the best i could do with the zoom and the features.

Default First ever pic through telescope

This was my first attempt at photographing through the lens of my telescope xmas present. It came out OK I think

Sadly the high level cloud meant no nice red/orange moon.

yah for my graduation in November, i am asking for a good digital camera that had a very decent zoom or good lenses, shutuer functions, and lots of megapixes (4 or more is what i am looking for). It is either that or qa trip to europe. I definitely think this is much better.

Never taken a photography class in my life but i like just fiddling around with the functions and the camera trying to get a good shot.

I've got a lovely shot of the first bit of the moon reappearing after the umbral stage which I'll post up here once I finish editing it, it's that copper orange-red color and includes a beautiful magenta artifact caused by the automatic flash deciding to go off, but the picture really is lovely anyway. Not bad for my first attempt, just shoving a digital camera into the eyepiece of the telescope and pulling the trigger.

Hello friends.
What - Lunar eclipse? Let's see....
Cloud cover.
Last year's Perseids (sp?) meteor shower - supposedly the best yet.
Cloud cover.
Comet Halley; last pass....
Cloud cover.
If I want to see anything up there, I think I'm gonna move to Britain - the skies are clearer. :P

Come here, we have the clearer skies and the better beer :-)
In August '99, Karlsruhe was one of the few spots not totally covered by clouds, so I had a nice view on the total eclipse that time.

Default Arizona is the place

Heh.. cloud cover? what's that? is that when the sky gets kinda white?

Lunar eclipse - not a cloud in the sky
Perseids - Not a cloud...
Halley... (i didn't see it but i'm guessing no clouds... =))

Plus I live in Flagstaff, the first International Dark Sky City... Absolutely perfect viewing nearly every night.

Jealous? =)

A week of clear skies and now it decides to cloud up. I've got my first flying lesson tomorrow as well. That'll probably be cancelled if this rain doesn't clear up. I bought a load of special film for the occasion as well. The Leonids were also clouded out. There's no justice. And once more for the sake of it.

It's such a joy living in this rain infested country. Almost waited in the rain for a lucky break in the clouds but realised I was really deluding myself...

Default On the claws of scorpius

The sky was marvellous yesterday night. Itīs fall here in paradise, and this time of year a high pressure system usually stalls over most of S. America keeping the atmosphere devoided of clouds for weeks.

The shadow started eating the Moon around 11 pm (GMT -4), appearing to come from the south. Antares was a few degrees south of the Moon, making a beautiful pair with it. Slowly, the skies went darker and darker, and finally, around midnight, Scorpius appeared in all its glory, with the eclipsed Moon exactly between its claws. It was one of the most beautiful patterns I have seen in Moon eclipses.

I don't know why I'm torturing myself by reading posts by folks who live in an area with clear skies during the eclipse. Seeing it vicariously I guess. Thanks to all who posted pics for the rest of us.

It wasn't any better in Dallas, folks. I was stoked to see yet another lunar eclipse (I've seen 3 or 4). Nice view of grey clouds. At least no tornadoes or hail this time.

I can relate. Luckily, I got to see a transit of IO a month ago at a star party. Are you going to the TAS meeting next friday? It's at Richland college. Here's the club site.

Happy to report that for once it was not foggy in Santa Barbara, CA and I got a wonderful view. From here, the shadow was on the lower right, not lower left as in some of the pics. Anyone know why? I watched until it started to end with a lovely pearl of white moon that just kept getting bigger. Much better viewing than Jan 2000.

And yes Silent_Bob, I am jealous!!! :-?

I was upset that I couldn't view the entire eclipse. I caught Luna as she was coming over the horizon, nice and bigm and tinged red-orange. Then she vanished into the clouds, peeking out once in her normal white persona. I got one decent picture, I'll post it later tonight.
