Hello
I was at U of M a week ago to view Mars, at their observatory on the roof of Angell Hall (State St. between South and North Univeristy). They are sponsoring a series of Public Lectures and Observatory Nights in the next couple of months here's a run down. September 19: Rocky Kolb - University of Chicago "The Quantum and the Cosmos" October 3: Gus Evard - University of Michigan "The Birth of Galaxies" Ocotber 17: Alyssa Gooman - Harvard University "A Recipe for Making Stars and Planets" October 24: Geoffrey Marcy - University of California - Berkley "Extrasolar Planets and Prospects for Life" November 7: Fred Adams - University of Michigan "Future of Life, Universe and Everything" All lectures will be held on Friday at 7:30 pm in Angell Hall Auditorium D. Followed by telescope viewing on Angell Hall Roof, weather permiting. There was a surprising number of people there last week, I had to wait in line for about 1.5 hours to look through the big scope (a computer controlled 16" reflector), but it was worth it, they also have a few 8" Sch-Cas, set up the lines for those are considerably shorter.
