Default Beautiful Galactic Merger Movie

A computer simulation of two galaxies presented by the American Museum of Natural History is simply stunning.

Here it is.

[There was one error I noticed. Care to guess it? ]

George. They included the orbit of Pluto as part of the solar system at ~ 30 degrees, and Pluto doesn't count anymore. ? Pete

I can't get the sim to load. But I would guess that it relates to heliochromology.

Yep. I will send this on to the Bad Heliochromology in Media thread, once one is established. Hmmmm, maybe it's time. I wonder how much graphical storage this website can handle?

I used the "high" quality setting with no problems. Anyone else having troubles with the video?

That is a valid point, but how could you miss the blatant yellow stellar error?

They didn't make the Milky Way a bar galaxy?

A two-bar one?

The heliochromology answer has won the cigar.

Looking at it again, I wonder why the put in the green star? Is there a sense-of-humor embedded in this video?

The $100 question, or tank of gas, is... where is the Sun at the end of the merger with Andromeda? [The shell came just got a bit more complicated. ]

I´ve got the impression that the simulation does not take into account the effects of dark matter on the galaxies' rotation. Also, it suggests that there is a large amount of stellar systems in the intergalactic medium, ejected as a result of these collisions.
