First:
Considering this is quite an astronomical discovery, and the story is on just about every media outlet, odds are the people here would already have discussed it so it might be worth a quick search.

Long links don't paste well here, they get chopped off in the middle. But; this story is on just about any media outlet anyway.

Third:
Be careful how much you cut/paste to the board, you may be flirting with copyrights.

Long links are fine, carefully copy and pasted. a-l-e-x didn't copy and paste a URL, though. a-l-e-x copied and pasted some abbreviated string of junk, with an ellipsis in the middle -- and it is therefore a link to nothing.

Right, I used "don't copy well" as shorthand for what you explained better. Yes; the URL is needed, not just a link name(or whatever) which probably is truncated for viewing.
Without the link, it was hard to tell.

If in doubt, Google's your friend.
Just grab a distinct looking sentence and search for "The whole sentence.", usually google will provide a link.
That's the usual way I confirm it when a link hasn't been included in something that smells like a copy.

Not a big deal. It probably happened when you tried to copy a URL that was not actually a URL but just some text abbreviated for display.

We all need to be careful about providing links that work. I proofread mine, but to make sure I usually try to exercise links I provide to make sure they function. If I think my readers might find them useful, I want them to work.

Anytime! Im glad there's so much more info on this than just that one article. This is a fascinating time to live in-- on the brink of discovery. In some way, shape or form, I feel like we're reliving the "Age of Discovery," when great explorers like Columbus, Magellan and Drake sailed the seas. Of course, all we can do is observe from afar at this point-- but it really does spark the imagination!
