I wrote about this in my book. Here is a website which has evidence that looking at the Sun may not harm your eyes, but in some circumstances it can, especially in children.

That sounds about right. You take a gamble every time you stare at the Sun, and while that means you won't necessarily lose - don't be expecting the same result every time...

people play russian roulette and live , that does not mean its safe and should be taken as a reccomendation to try it

unless someone gives me a very good reason to look at the sun without my #11 welders lens then i aint going to
