Default silly lunar cycle question

Ok. According to CNN, we have a lunar eclipse coming up this Sat. (nov. 8). Fine and dandy! But, at the end of the article, they mention that there will also be a total solar eclipse on Nov. 28 (viewable only in Antartica).

My question is, with a 28 day lunar cycle, how is it that there's 20 days between the lunar eclipse and the solar eclipse this month??? Shouldn't it be more like 14???

I found the CNN story: http://www.cnn.com/2003/TECH/space/1....ap/index.html

Indeed, they claim the solar eclipse in on Novemeber 28.
They are wrong...the solar eclipse over Antarctica is November 23, 2003.

Edited to add: I contacted CNN.com to notify them of the error.

Eric

No, you were correct to post it here. There are two "bads" in Bad Bad Astronomy. That forum is for posting notices of typos, etc. on the fine website attached to this bulletin board. 8)

Probably not the Bad Bad Astronomy forum, but the No Doughnut forum.
