Anyone Know Why....?
Can anyone enlighten me as to why there was never any Apollo 2 or 3? The sequence jumps from 1 to 4 and although I have heard a couple of explanations, I am sure someone here can provide the definitive answer.... :wink:

This page lists the unmanned missions as AS-201, AS-202, AS-203, Apollo 4, Apollo 5, Apollo 6. The Grissom/White/Chaffee mission was dubbed Apollo 1 after the fire even though in the planning stages it was AS-204. (The first number indicates the booster: 2=Saturn IB.) I'm not sure what the numbering sequence would have been without the fire.
